I happen to pick this book up while on a run in Corner Brook, Canada and stumbled upon a bookshop and was looking for purchasing a relationship self-development book.

“YOU must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from YOUr life... Hurry is not just a disordered schedule. Hurry is a disordered heart.” - John Ortberg

Value YOUr time with YOU and with YOUr relationships .

Who YOU become, know one can take away.

At the time of writing this in 2018, I intentionally got this book because I was currently involved in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend, who was away from the cruise ship that I was working on. I felt interested in continually priming my mind with content related to improving and strengthening relationships. It is interesting to note that I read a relationship book now and am interested in reading it. Still, as I grow and develop as a person, my focus will shift to other topics and interests I would like to improve upon myself.

One of the biggest takeaways I still carry from my experience reading this book is the importance of what Doug Field highlighted in every chapter about perspective and how you can be viewed and interpreted in a relationship with your partner or spouse. Relationships will have their ever-changing dynamics and friction. And knowing that I was grateful to read a relationship book at a younger age teaching me that whenever I'm experiencing relationship difficulties, I can seek guidance from relationship books to bring into focus perspective and help with allowing my mind to process what I am experiencing and giving meaning to a situation in a relationship. And most importantly, finding the best way to associate a sense of empowerment with what I experience in my relationships.

I can also add that one of the last longer relationships that I had in 2021 was handled poorly because, for that year, I stopped reading and being intentional with what I was reading to help whenever I experienced friction in my life. I know because this relationship brought about new perspectives and scenarios, with coming from different cultures and in a new country myself, I truly felt I could have handled the situation more maturely and with a more profound view if I had searched out books and content to what Doug Files writes about.
