SIX-WORD πŸ“š SUMMARY - Without Music It Would Change History

Xander Clemens in Portland, Oregon reading the book This is Your Brain on Music y Neuroscientist and Musician/Producer Daniel Levitin

Shout out to Rustam QBic for his mural Star Catcher, located right next to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon. I recently finished reading This is Your Brain on Music, written by Neuroscientist and Musician/Producer Daniel Levitin. A book that will dissect how our brain interprets the sounds we call music from the perspective of an individual who has an extensive background in the music industry and a prominent scientific background. Funny enough, Rustam QBIC mentioned in an interview that he avoids using music when painting his murals as it will interfere with the feeling of being accessible and on his own. This book again highlights the importance of your brain and feeds it positivity with words, music, and ideas.

My favorite quotes from Daniel Levitin

“For the artist, the goal of the painting or musical composition is not to convey literal truth, but an aspect of a universal truth that if successful, will continue to move and to touch people even as contexts, societies and cultures change. For the scientist, the goal of a theory is to convey "truth for now"--to replace an old truth, while accepting that someday this theory, too, will be replaced by a new "truth," because that is the way science advances.”

“The number of combinations possible and hence the number of different thoughts or brain states each of us can have exceeds the number of known particles in the entire known universe.”
