A modern take on a complex topic to capture in one book, the history of the world! Sapiens A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari. “Statehood” Mural by Justine Pechusal. Thank you, Yuval Noah Harari, for writing Sapiens! Communicating your wealth of history and perspective had me enthralled with the continual enlightened hit of dopamine from the first page to the utmost end. This book gave me valued mental reps that aided in conditioning thoughts of perspective for humans and a sense of a better understanding of others. Cheers, and keep being curious!
I have read this book three times, and I'm always finding nuggets of gold that help connect the dots in my head for understanding how humans have arrived at the point we are in a given time. Yuval Noah Harari sees the current agricultural treatment of animals as one of the worst crimes in our history. He questions whether our incredible material advancements had made humans any happier than when they were in the past. He considers modern capitalism as hideous, and soon, humans will evolve from the tremendous advances in biology to lead humans to become different species and beings that are god-like.
“So why study history? Unlike physics or economics, history is not a means for making accurate predictions. We study history not to know the future but to widen our horizons, to understand that our present situation is neither natural nor inevitable and that we consequently have many more possibilities before us than we can imagine.”
“The romantic contrast between modern industry that “destroys nature” and our ancestors who “lived in harmony with nature” is groundless. Long before the Industrial Revolution, Homo sapiens held the record among all organisms for driving the most plant and animal species to their extinctions. We have the dubious distinction of being the deadliest species in the annals of life.”
I'd be happy to discuss your project and how we can work together to create unique, fun and engaging content.
