Book Review On Forgiveness by Richard Holloway

SIX WORD 📚 SUMMARY: Gain Perspective From Travel and Books

Xander Clemens is in Montreal, Canada reading the book On Forgiveness by Richard Holloway

I finished reading On Forgiveness by Richard Holloway. Many of the topics of forgiveness in the book utilize real-world examples from the following: September 11th, situations in South Africa, and the continuing disagreements in Palestine/Israel, Northern Ireland, and Serbia. This book explains how forgiveness works and how the need to embrace it is more significant than ever if we are to liberate ourselves from the shackles of the past. This picture was taken during my time on the Seabourn Quest and, more specifically, on an embarkation day where new passengers were coming on the hip. This meant I had more time in the morning to explore the city and made it into downtown Montreal to stop and take a moment to read and observe my surroundings.

My favorite quote by Richard Holloway

“Our private human concerns appear to be dwarfed and made meaningless by the immensity of the universe.....

The reason we want to forgive individuals, while retaining the important ability to judge their actions is that we know that personal action is the fruit of character and that character is largely predetermined by factors that are not in our control.”
