A Twenty One Pilots like handshake with Daniel Pepper

Like any creative activity, handshakes can have a variety of different degrees of creativity, from the quick two or three second handshakes with a simple sequence to taking time to practice, rehearse and look to perfect an elaborate arrangement that, when performing, you're not thinking about anything else it that very moment. I feel for myself when I feel in the flow and at peace, which is a great feeling to experience when sharing a moment with another human being. This special handshake that I performed with my friend Daniel Pepper was rehearsed for numerous days. It made it a bit easy to rehearse since Daniel was my roommate on the MV Seabourn Quest cruise ship in 2018, and we would see each other every day. Daniel had initially come up with the idea to model after the musical group Twenty One Pilots and their own handshake video.

Once Daniel had the idea, it made sense to perform our handshake at one of Daniel's passions to follow. That passion is football. Daniel is from Leeds, England, where football runs deep in the culture and society, and he is a lifelong Leeds United Football supporter. The cruise ship we were both working on had to spend one week in Genoa, Italy, for repairs, so all the crew members spent a week here. Because football is a world sport, we decided to make one of the many activities we did in Genoa an outing to a Genoa C.F.C versus Crotone Serie A football match on April 14.

After the game was over, we decided then and there to capture this shared moment of spending the afternoon with our friends and hanging out to perform our handshake and create a moment. Thank you, Daniel, for introducing me more profoundly to the culture of football and its immense importance for so many people in the world.
